iPhone 4S owners looking to maximize their chances of achieving an eventual software-based carrier unlock should be staying at 5.0. If you’re an iPhone4S owner who already updated to 5.0.1, it’s too late to go back down to 5.0, but if you’re on 9A406 it is possible to downgrade the BB by going to the 9A405 version of 5.0.1 while the window is still open. So download and restore to build 9A405 which will downgrade the baseband !!!! do it now before Apple closes there window !! there are two methods the easiest one is using absinthe method.
Method1 : jailbreak iPhone 4S and iPad 2 iOS 5.0.1 using Absinthe (Greenpois0n):

2. Connect your iPhone 4S / iPad 2 with your PC via USB make a backup
3. Check if you have iOS 5.0.1 build 9A405 (Settings>>> General >>> About)
Step 1:Download Greenpois0n Absinthe, then unzip and run the file.
Step 3: Connect your iPhone 4S / iPad 2 with your PC via USB.
Step 3: Simply click on "Jailbreak" button follow the steps appear on the greenpois0n screen.
The application will take you through several steps of the jailbreak:
It will take a while on the starting portion;
Then your iPhone 4S will show restoring a backup saying “Restoring in Progress”;
Your iPhone 4S will reboot. DO NOT UNPLUG IT YET! when it’s turned on, unlock your iPhone if necessary, waiting for device to finish booting. Preparing jailbreak data, and Sending payload data.
It will take time, don’t worry.
There will be an Absinthe icon on your iPhone 4S screen after reboot. Locate it and Tap on the Absinthe icon and it will load GreenPois0n site, and then after a minute it will reboot your iPhone 4S automatically. Once your iPhone 4S is back ON, the Cydia icon will be there on your screen.
That’s it! have fun with your jailbroken iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0.1 or 5.0 firmware with Absinthe.

Troubleshooting
o Camera roll will be empty if the jailbreak is incomplete. Rerun the app once to fix, and then another time to complete jb.
o If the Absinthe webclip shows “Error establishing a database connection”, please go to Settings, turn on VPN and wait instead.
o The VPN connection will give an error. This is normal. A reboot should happen a few moments after the error.
o Just reboot and redo the jailbreak if you have problems.
o When jailbreaking: Do not have a passcode set. Do not have your own VPN setup (Absinthe needs to setup its own).
o If Absinthe crashes, reboot your DEVICE and try again.
o Toggle VPN only AFTER Absinthe says it’s done, or it will not work. VPN SHOULD error and then reboot soon. If it does not, rerun Absinthe!
5. Connect your iPhone 4S / iPad 2 with your PC via USB make a backup
6. Check if you have iOS 5.0.1 build 9A405 (Settings>>> General >>> About)
7. If you don’t then upgrade to iOS 5.0.1 build 9A405 by opening iTunes and upgrading or restoring to iOS 5.0.1 build 9A505.

Method 2: Jailbreak using cinject method:
Step 1: Download CLI cinject from here:

1. Connect your iPhone 4S / iPad 2 with your PC via USB make a backup
2. Check if you have iOS 5.0.1 build 9A405 (Settings>>> General >>> About)
3. If you don’t have iOS 5.0.1 build 9A405 then upgrade to iOS 5.0.1 build 9A405 by opening iTunes and upgrading or restoring to iOS 5.0.1 build 9A505.
Step 2: Open the downloaded WindowsPC_cinject_0.4.3 and unzip and cinject_0.4.3 folder to drive C:\
Step 3: Open Start menu, click on "run" and type cmd.exe
Step 4: In the command window, type: CD C:\cinject_0.4.3 as shown to get into the required folder.
Step 5: Now, execute CLI. Do this by typing: cinject.exe -i payloads/jailbreak.mobileconfig
Step 6: Now execute cinject.exe -j payloads and wait for the backup.
Step 7: Finally execute the command cinject.exe -w
Step 8: Once completed, you should see an Absinthe icon on the Home screen. Tap the Absinthe icon, it will open GreenPois0n site, and will then reboot your device. Once it loads again, the Cydia icon will have replaced the Absinthe icon. Non enjoy your iPhone 4S / iPad 2 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak.
Errors:
For FATAL(_LINE_) error, go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings. Then do the procedure all over again.

For normal users who want to use GreenPois0n Absinthe jailbreak tool, a Mac OS X version is currently available. You can follow our guide posted here to jailbreak iPhone 4S, iPad 2 untethered.
How to restore :
1- Download the iOS 5.0.1 build 9A405 and Connect idevice to iTunes and BACKUP!! Make sure that you backup!! Because when upgrading using custom ipsw you will lose all data so backup and then go to next step.

3- Now press SHIFT keyboard key + RESTORE button iTunes
4- Browse to the custom iOS 5 ipsw file you have downloaded and start restore process
5- If you get error 3194 then Delete sauriks server from hosts file in order to get rid of errors during upgrade. Open the file C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts (Windows) or /etc/hosts (Mac OS X) and delete the following entry : 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
6- IF YOU GET ERROR 16xx :
1- use pwangetool, redsn0w, iReb , snowbreeze to enter DFU mode
2- delete sauriks server from hosts file and then also after that CLEAR the DNS cache
